Thousands of giant beasts roam the Rio Grande Valley and leave their footprints all over Cameron County.

Nilgai bulls, weighing nearly half a ton, and smaller nilgai cows appear to be flourishing in Cameron, Willacy and Kenedy counties.

Their presence, however, is anything but welcomed.
Originally from India and Pakistan, they are among the largest members of the antelope family and were brought to the King Ranch in the 1930s to attract hunters looking for something exotic.
